Wen RedmondAugust 21-25, 2017 |
Join Wen Redmond, internationally recognized NH mixed media and fiber artist, for two stimulating workshops. She is a mixed media artist whose work embraces several media including digital processes, surface design, and collage. Her new book “Digital Fiber Art” has just been recently released so we are very fortunate to be bringing her here to the Stitchin’ Post. Wen works intuitively, encouraging ‘flow," finding ones’ own artistic voice, and listening to the inner muse in her workshop participants.
Digital Fiber Art - Combine Photos and Fabric Create Your Own Mixed Media Masterpiece is now available in the shop.
(Due to the Solar Eclipse, all the hotels in the area were booked for the time we originally planned this workshop, so we have worked with Wen to reschedule these workshops a few days later. |
Spontaneous Fabric Painting Includes Heliographic Sun Printing if weather allows. “I do not want exactness in my painted cloth but spontaneous colors--mix and allow development! To be open for the unexpected--changeable like the clouds.” |

Rosalie DaceAugust 28 – September 8, 2017 |
Rosalie Dace is a full time quiltmaker whose work reflects her passion for colour, pattern and texture. She has had a lifelong interest in textiles and embroidery and has a degree in Art and English. While she values the traditions from which our quiltmaking has come, she believes that a quilt should say something about its time and place in history. This and her awareness of being a South African artist give her work its particular character. |
Dizzy Circles Add vitality and energy to your work with eccentric circles. Used symbolically in all cultures, circles are a strong design element and focal point. Now discover what happens when you move from perfect whole circles to the unexpected excitement of eccentric circles. Learn to use them confidently by fusing, appliqueing, piecing or stitching them to add movement and direction to your work. Working with a variety of spirals, helixes and other broken circles, you will learn how to add a new graphic quality by stitching or overlapping eccentric circles to make an individual free-wheeling composition. You may choose to work by hand or machine or both. |

Jeannette MeyerColor: Compare & ContrastSeptember 23 - 24, 2017 |
at the Stitchin' Post This color class focuses on the manipulation of color contrasts, and is designed for fiber artists. We’ll use fiber artist’s tools in our class work: fabric, thread, and fusible adhesives. No paint or pantone swatches, so if you’re paint-ophobic, this is the color class for you! Spend two days immersing yourself in color while completing a series of hands-on exercises designed to make you understand the power of different kinds of color contrasts. You’ll discover that learning to use color contrasts in a purposeful way will allow you to control the mood and emotion as well as the graphic impact of your work. |

Sue BennerMonoprint the Quilt: Surface Alteration with Textile PaintOctober 9-13, 2017 |
At the Stitchin' Post Monoprinting with textile paints can dramatically change the surface of your work, pushing your ideas into new creative territory. Using her fusible collage methods, Sue will demonstrate how to paint and print at different levels of construction, from manipulating a single piece of fabric to the entire surface of the quilt. Through experimentation with opaque and metallic paints, each participant will have the opportunity to create two works: one abstract and open-ended, the other more realistic and image-based. This class is full, but we are still taking names for the waiting list. |
Kaffe Fassett - Cancelled |
The Stitchin' Post is disappointed to announce that in finalizing his Fall 2017 tour schedule, Kaffe Fassett has cancelled his classes in Sisters in mid-October. Westminister is the company in charge of Kaffe’s teaching schedule. In reviewing the volume of stores that have waited years for Kaffe and Brandon to come, they have chosen to visit only the shops that have never had the opportunity to host them. We can count our blessings that they have visited the Stitchin’ Post three times. Hopefully you have been one of the ones who have taken his class in the past. We are sorry for any disappointment this has caused. Thank you for supporting our educational program and we hope to see you in the future. |

Rosalie DaceVive La Difference! -
Contrast in Composition In a series of short manageable exercises we will explore contrast of value, color, line, shape, texture, size, scale and mood. Working with dark and light, big and small, hard and soft, warm and cool, straight and curved, calm and busy, rough and smooth, organic and curvy, you will find ways of adding visual impact and spark to your work. The class is accompanied by exciting visual support with slides, books and actual textile examples. A short discussion will give a daily focus. You will be guided in making your own individual small daily paste-ups in fabric / paper. From these you will develop a larger quilt top. |
Valerie GoodwinMap Play - Using the Basic Principles of Design
You will create paper map-like collage compositions through a series of quick "hands-on" exercises and subsequently make fabric constructions. The goal of this class is to allow you to create little spontaneous works that can become the basis for a final small quilted art map. You will develop these pieces using freehand scissor cutting, layering of varied fabrics, and other techniques to create an interesting work of art. The primary prerequisite is a desire to have fun through the creative process and willingness to trying something new. This workshop produces mapping samples that can be used in later quilted, painted or stitched works. * There will be a materials fee of $10 per person to offset costs of instructor provided supplies. You will be making relatively small pieces, therefore you will not need large quantities of fabric, but you will need an assortment of colors and values with which to work. |
